My Favorite 5 Home Accessories

Accessories are the last details of a room to be considered when decorating a room - but that doesn't mean they are aren't important! Accessories help you home to feel personal, unique, and cozy. Accessorizing a room can be TRICK-Y. It's an art and leaves a lot of people stumped. Many clients have hired me just to accessorize their home & it's one of my favorite thing to do, so I wanted to share with you 5 of my favorite home accessories.

#1 Books!

You probably have tons of these right in your home already! If you don't, hit up your local thrift shops and 2nd Hand Shops. Looks for hard bound books that match the colors in your room. Pay attention to the titles though! I've found many books at thrift shops that the size, look and color were perfect but the title was inappropriate, offensive, or risque, (some of them quite funny - but still not something you probably wanted displayed in your living room . . . haha!) You can stack a few books horizontally and place an interesting object on top, or shelf them vertically next to an interesting object.

#2 Pottery/Jars/Vases

Since there is such a wide variety of sizes, shapes, textures and colors of pottery available they are great to accessorize with. Choose ones that vary in height to keep the eye moving and combine them with other accessories. Home Goods, Tuesday Morning and Target are some of my favorite inexpensive places to find them.

#3 Trays

Tray, trays, trays for days! Trays are like the magic accessory! Put items of varying shapes and heights in a tray and place it on a chest, cocktail table, shelf, etc. and just like that your décor looks curated and intentional. People will think you are a decorating genius... maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but I kind of feel like its true! Here, here and here are a few of my recent favorite tray finds.

#4 Greenery or Flowers

You always need something organic when accessorizing. Its always nice to bring the outdoors indoors. You can use real greenery - which of course is optimal, but not always feasible. Let's be honest not everyone has the time and resources to be switching out their greenery or flowers every couple of days. When this is the case I don't have one problem with using faux greenery or flowers - as long as they are good quality and real looking, you know what I mean?!

#5 Boxes

Boxes are another of my favorite accessories! They are great for stacking to add height. You can stack 2 boxes on top of each other, or you can put an interesting object on top -or even both. Their structured shape offsets organic accessories. You can always find cool boxes at Home Goods. Here and here are a few of my favorite recent box finds.

That's all for now folks - happy decorating!
